Jacket

Let's set the stage. It was May 5th, 1991. I was a very impressionable 15 year old lad sitting in a packed Hanover Coliseum along the glass, right beside the Zamboni door. The atmosphere was electric! The fans were crazy and I was in close proximity to the loudest siren I have ever heard. After every Barons' goal my ears would ring and I wouldn't have it any other way.

23 years ago today, The Hanover Barons captured the All Ontario Championship in thrilling fashion, defeating the Orangeville Crushers in seven, hard fought games. Kincardine native, Ian Brook's, goal part way through the third period proved to be the winner. Barons Win, Barons Win!

I remember being in awe watching these guys celebrate. Sticks, gloves, helmets were scattered across the ice in an epic sight of jubilation. It was their "Stanley Cup" and you could tell they were proud of this achievement.

Bringing that moment forward, what impresses me the most about this team is how these fine young gentlemen evolved into leaders of the community. Policemen, school teachers, entrepreneurs, managers, NHL referee, salesmen, ambulance attendants, etc.

Many of them have remained very active in the game they love through coaching, training or playing in adult leagues. They may be a little slower, a little less intense but they always will play "For the Love of The Game".

Thanks to Keith MacMillan, you can drop by Johnny K Sports to relive this hockey memory as we display his Championship Jacket in the store.

Do you have a favourite Jacket? Want to share it with us?

I appreciate you taking the time to read this, time flies, thank you.
